2022-2023 Upper Elementary Core

Teacher: Misty Hunter

UEC Math Grade 4

8:45 am – 9:40 am
Teacher: Misty Hunter
Tuition: 30 weeks (1-hour class) – $230
Materials Fee: $ 20
Optional Lab:
Class Description:
We will use the Abeka Arithmetic for UEC. In my opinion, this math curriculum builds a solid math foundation for students. I love the spiral reviews, so students continue to work on previously learned skills throughout the year. We will use manipulatives, group/partner activities, and games to introduce and review skills weekly. 4th grade math: Concepts covered in Grade 4 include: multiplying and dividing two -digit numbers, estimation, square measures, writing decimals as fractions, simple geometry and more. A major emphasis is working with proper and improper fractions- adding, subtracting, multiplying, and finding the least common denominators. 5th grade math: Concepts covered in Grade 5 include: the place value of whole numbers and decimals, story problems, calculating time, making change, rounding off numbers, operations involving fractions, probability, negative temperature, graphs, estimation, square roots, and more. 6th grade math: Concepts covered in Grade 6 include: problem solving, percents, basic geometry, measures, fractions, decimals, proportions, beginning algebra, prime and composite numbers, graphs and statistics, and practical arithmetic. The story problems and practical problem solving strategies help students see math relevance to everyday life, as they look at math dealing with banking and budgeting.
Required Textbooks and Materials:
“Abeka: Arithmetic Grade 4”
Homework Estimate: Being good at math skills requires daily practice. Students will be assigned a lesson a day with optional extra lessons for extra credit. Parents will make the call weekly on how much practice is needed for their student/child. For example, If your child doesn’t need to practice 10 division problems because they are strong in division, have your child do one or two for spiral review. I will make assignments weekly, but you know what your child needs. They do NOT have to do all the problems of the assignment if they do not need practice on those skills.

We love our church, The Journey, and are very active in the various ministry opportunities found there.
