8:00 AM – 9:00 AM Etiquette & Public Speaking
Grades 5-8Tuition: 30 weeks (1-hour class) – $230
Materials Fee: $15
Optional Lab:
Class Description:
This class will first cover “Manners that actually Matter” and what I like to call “Courageous Conversation” at the end. We will cover most of the areas that we all feel uncomfortable at times in – areas where if we knew exactly What to do or say or How to do it and When to do it, we would soar with CONFIDENCE! We will address every day, manners at home, out and about manners, like formal dining, party etiquette, ordering and proper behavior at restaurants, going through buffet lines properly, using proper greetings and introductions, social media do’s, and don’ts, how to sit and stand correctly in group photos, and, of course how to write a proper thank you note and why?? We will also cover things like how to be a great host or be a great guest that always gets a second invite, but also representing ourselves well so that people see who we are quickly! Part of growing up is learning what to do in lots of situations! Hopefully at the end of this 30 week class, you will feel confident in your ability to handle anything life throws you! Manners may have gotten a reputation for being pointless or hard or just just for Royals! Truth is … manners are just the right ways of being thoughtful and kind to others. The last 7 to 8 weeks of class, we will focus on the most feared thing on the planet… Public Speaking ! I am saving this for last because I feel that after we have covered some basic manners this will be far less intimidating 🙂 We will focus on the DELIVERY of the speech, thought, or idea. Practicing the do’s and don’ts with fun activities will eliminate this fear! I honestly feel like homeschoolers have such an edge already, but with this “Finishing Touch” there will be no limitations on what the Lord can accomplish in their lives!
Required Textbooks and Materials:
None
Homework Estimate: No more than 20 minutes a week- but mostly no homework at all

Years ago, my husband and I adopted two children from Ethiopia! The kids are 16 and 17 years old now and adding them to our family was the best thing we could have ever done! Now I have been homeschooling for 25+ years! We live on a little hobby farm and enjoy goats, camping, swimming and Boating. I have a bachelors degree from the University of Tennessee. My first job was teaching kindergarten at a Jewish school in Wisconsin and that’s when I knew how much I enjoyed teaching children. Since then, I’ve had the privilege of teaching many different subjects that I’m passionate about to many different ages. Honestly, it is my true JOY To pass on knowledge and the love of Jesus to my students!

Grades 7-8Tuition: 30 weeks (1-hour class) – $230
Materials Fee: $45
Optional Lab:
Class Description:
Prepare to be awed by God’s amazing creation as we dive into a variety of science topics, including the scientific method, earth science, life science, and human anatomy. There are 16 modules in the textbook, with 2 weeks spent on average per module. At home, students will read each module, complete vocabulary worksheets, and answer selected On Your Own/Study Guide questions. In class, students will be guided to take some simple notes, and quizzes will be given on the key concepts of each module. Most experiments will be performed in class. We end the year with a few dissections. Science Fair participation is required for a grade in this class. Whether your students have had a robust elementary science education, or this is their first official science class, they will complete this fun course having a well-established knowledge of the basics in all areas of science and will be prepared to transition and engage in upcoming high school-level sciences. *This course will help your student transition from previous elementary expectations, to what will be expected from them in their high school years. This Apologia course probably requires more reading and more homework than what they had to do in the past. At-home quizzes are given over the simple notes given in class, encouraging students to learn how to study notes. More is required of them, but it’s still hard not to get an A in this course if homework is completed (perfection is not required). Please reach out if you feel your student might need modifications due to personal learning challenges.
Required Textbooks and Materials:
Apologia’s “Exploring Creation With General Science,” 2nd Edition by Jay Wile** (No need to purchase the Solutions/Test Manual or the Student Workbook). All lab & dissection supplies will be purchased by the teacher with the materials fee, except for simple materials students already have available at home. **A few copies of the textbook are available to borrow for the year. Contact me if interested!** Printer needed to print weekly homework assignments. Audio recordings of the modules will be made available via Google Classroom to aid students who have difficulty reading or who are auditory learners.
Homework Estimate: 1 hour/day

I’m excited to be given the opportunity to explore with students the details of God’s amazing creation & to expand their views of how great our Creator is! This will be my eighth year of formal teaching at CCA, my 12th year at CCA, and my 17th year as a homeschool mom of four amazing children. In my previous life, I worked as a registered nurse and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. Through the years, I’ve always had a heart for teaching. Understanding the why and the how behind concepts not only helps us retain & apply the information but also allows us to marvel at the tapestry of God’s detailed plan and worship Him at a deeper level. I currently teach High School Biology, High School Health, and Jr. High General Science at CCA. In my spare time, I serve on the Board of CCA out of a desire to be of assistance to the wonderful families who attend and those who run this fabulous organization.

8:00 AM – 9:00 AM Jr. High American History
Grades 7-8Tuition: 30 weeks (1-hour class) – $230
Materials Fee: $25
Optional Lab:
Class Description:
“Our country was founded on Christian principles. To try and teach American History without teaching from a Biblical worldview is impossible. From our understanding of the Constitution, trial by jury, judicial penalties, and authoritative structures, our entire country and governmental system is based on the Word of God. Let’s teach our children true American History, from the viewpoint it was always intended to be taught. This is a lecture-style class that will also teach your children how to take notes and study from those notes for the tests. Required Textbooks and Materials: I will provide the text books, but your child is responsible to take care of them or they will be charged for a new book.”
Required Textbooks and Materials:
Curriculum books are provided
Homework Estimate: 45 minutes per week
Teacher Bio:
I have a passion for American history and hate to see what is being taught to our children in today’s culture. Whether it be from critical theorists, atheists who wish to rewrite our founding father’s history, or the pushback against American exceptionalism, our children are taught to see everything about our history from a negative connotation, while we should be showing them how God has blessed our nation and they have a history of which they can be proud.
Teacher: Chris Katsuda
8:00 AM – 9:00 AM Programming with Robotics
Grades 5-8Tuition: 30 weeks (1-hour class) – $230
Materials Fee: $25
Optional Lab:
Class Description:
“This course is an introduction to programming using VEX IQ robots. Students will focus entirely on coding and problem-solving; the robots will be prebuilt, so no construction experience is required. Over the course, students will work through a structured series of programming projects that gradually increase in difficulty. We will begin with block-based programming to learn how to control motors, drive and turn the robot, and manipulate field elements using both driver-controlled and autonomous routines. From there, students will apply the core building blocks of programming — variables, conditionals, loops, functions, structured logic, and debugging — within increasingly challenging robot-based tasks. Students who are ready may transition from block programming to Python. Each student will work at their own pace. When a project is completed successfully, it is checked off and the student moves on to the next challenge. The curriculum is the same for all students; younger students may move more gradually, while older or faster-moving students may advance into more complex projects. Students are welcome to ask one another for help, but each student is responsible for completing their own work. Because students are programming real robots in a physical space, they will encounter practical engineering challenges that do not appear in screen-only coding. Movements must be precise, timing matters, and small programming errors have visible consequences. The goal of the course is not only to introduce coding, but to develop logical thinking, troubleshooting skills, and disciplined problem-solving in a hands-on environment. This course is designed for self-motivated students who enjoy problem solving and challenging themselves. Technology Requirement: Each student must bring a fully functional laptop (Windows or Mac) capable of running VEXcode IQ and connecting to a VEX IQ robot via USB. Parents are welcome to bring their laptops to me ahead of time to check compatibility. Chromebooks, iPads, and other tablets are not supported for this class. Students are responsible for ensuring their laptop is charged and operational before class. Devices that cannot reliably connect to the robot will prevent participation in programming activities. No prior programming or robotics experience is required.”
Required Textbooks and Materials:
Working Laptop that is compatible with Vex IQ Coding (not compatible with Chromebook, IPads, or other tablets)
Homework Estimate: No homework, but kids are free to program at home and get ahead if they wish.

8:00 AM – 9:00 AM What Is Christian Apologetics?
Grades 7-12Tuition: 30 weeks (1-hour class) – $230
Materials Fee: $35
Optional Lab:
Class Description:
““What is Christian Apologetics?”” Whether you are a new Christian, a seasoned Christian, or not a Christian, every student needs this class! TRUTH? “Can you handle the Truth?” or as Pontius Pilate famously asked, “What is Truth?” In a world where truth is quickly eroding into subjective feelings or whatever is hip in the culture at the moment, Christians must be ready to defend the faith as well as contend for it earnestly, like an athlete striving for victory with extreme intensity, as Jude states in the Scriptures. By learning the 12 points that prove Christianity is true (Dr. Norman Geisler), through the best-selling book, “I Don’t Have Enough Faith to Be an Atheist” (Geisler & Turek), students will see Christianity is not only more reasonable but also more rational than any other belief system in our world. So, let’s begin the journey! We need to be strong in our convictions & know how to critically think in a world that wants nothing of that, especially if you are a Christian! **This is a graded class and is a great elective class for HS students to earn credit, though this class is for ANY student 7-12th. We alternate reading & workbook homework each week, but DON’T WORRY because we will WORK TOGETHER in class on weekly assignments/homework to ensure you understand. I am more concerned with effort and class participation, so as not to be overwhelmed with the material. We will also have class discussions, videos, and examples of real-life objections being answered. Whether you are a 7th grader or a 12th grader, you will gain something from this class.** Don’t hesitate to contact me with questions regarding the class. Let the Amazing journey begin!!”
Required Textbooks and Materials:
Each student will need to purchase the book (not the study guide), “I Don’t Have Enough Faith to Be an Atheist” by Norman L. Geisler & Frank Turek (can order from Amazon or Christianbook.com for $13-$16). (All other materials, including the Student Workbook, that we will use, are provided with the materials fee.)
Homework Estimate: 1-2 hours per week or less

My name is Marsha Orbke. I have been honored to be a part of CCA from the very beginning! I am married to my wonderful husband, Wade of almost 25 years now, and we have together four amazing children. My oldest son, Walker, is 21 & a student at Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA. My other son, Isak, is 18, my oldest daughter, Hope is 15, and my youngest, Faith, is 9. I graduated from the University of TN, Knoxville, and I began my career as a Recreation Therapist in rehab centers and hospitals and did rehab for community re-entry patients with a private company. However, as my kiddos got older, I was divinely directed to not only stay at home with my kids but also homeschool them. After much prayer, we took the step of faith that God had put in both my husband’s and my heart to homeschool. After almost 13 years now of homeschooling, it has been a blessing. Anything good worth doing is usually not easy, and that goes without saying for homeschooling too, so I am grateful for my homeschool family at CCA, our Church, & others whom God has given us to help us in our journey! God has also enthusiastically put on my heart a love for Christian Apologetics, Logic Classes, & Student Ministry, and I am excited to share this with the next generation, so we can defend the faith with confidence & strength!

9:00 AM – 10:00 AM Drawing with Mixed Media
Grades 5-8Tuition: 30 weeks (1-hour class) – $230
Materials Fee: $35
Optional Lab:
Class Description:
Instruction for the Drawing class is based on “Drawing from the Right Side of the Brain,” a technique that allows students to draw what they see instead of what they think they see. Our early drawing of a house might be a square with a triangle on top. While that drawing is a representation of a house, it is not what a house really looks like. This technique gives instruction on how to draw the intricate details that make a drawing look “real,” while also enabling the students to portray their projects with perspective and proportion. As the year progresses, they will learn shading techniques, which give depth and value to a drawing. Students will also be instructed on how to effectively use other mediums such as pen and ink and colored pencils. After a few basic drawings are completed, students will be allowed to choose from other materials supplied and will progress at their own speed. Students will be required to bring or email me a reference picture that they are interested in drawing each week.
Required Textbooks and Materials:
All materials will be provided

9:00 AM – 10:00 AM Intro to Logic / How to Think Critically
Grades 7-12Tuition: 30 weeks (1-hour class) – $230
Materials Fee: $30
Optional Lab:
Class Description:
Welcome to the FUN class of LOGIC! Simply stated, “Logic is the principle of correct reasoning.” In this class, your students will become better at making good arguments but also learning how to spot bad ones! We will become fallacy detectives, learning to spot errors in people’s logic. You may ask, “Why is logic important?” Well, when we learn to use our minds to reason correctly, we tend to have true beliefs & therefore act on true beliefs, & acting on true beliefs can have far better outcomes than acting on false beliefs. For example, a person who doesn’t believe in gravity and wants to jump off a tall mountain with no negative consequences might see that experiment go south really quickly (no pun intended, Lol)! So, it is always to our advantage to reason correctly. From a Biblical Worldview, we will explore why thinking logically is consistent with how God intends us to think. So, put on your detective hats & let’s learn to detect good arguments vs bad ones & put yourself ahead of the rest! This class is a basic Introduction to Logic. It is a great class for any student in 7-12 grade! We will learn in class, as well as do fun exercises together. In order to learn logic, you must put logic to work, so there IS ”some” homework involved, but most work will be done as a group. This is a graded class, but most grades will come from in-class participation. Though, some of the grades will come from homework and a few quizzes to test your knowledge. DON’T WORRY-as long as you participate, you will have no trouble making a good grade in this class! So, let’s learn to reason logically together!
Required Textbooks and Materials:
Each Student must purchase Master Books’ “Introduction to Logic” (Student Edition-Textbook) by Jason Lisle. It can be purchased on the Master Books website: https://www.masterbooks.com/introduction-to-logic for about $25-27. You can also find this textbook at Christianbook.com for about the same price. A simple binder or folder will be helpful too in organizing papers from class. (Materials Fee will include: workbook curriculum, copies, & other class supplies)
Homework Estimate: 30 mins or less per week

Grades 7-12Tuition: 30 weeks (1-hour class) – $230
Materials Fee: $25
Optional Lab:
Class Description:
In Archery class, we will start from the beginning using the USA Archery National Training System. The goal of this class is not just to get kids to shoot a bow but to understand that Archery is about technique, form, and having fun. We will apply the steps of the NTS and learn about the equipment we shoot, the different styles of Archery, the scoring and targets of each, and mostly how to have fun in a sport we grow to love. Discipline, structure, and focus on Archery typically make a child a great life steward.
Required Textbooks and Materials:
“Each student must have their own bow and 6 arrows or rent one from CCA. It is imperative to talk with me or Kaden before purchasing any equipment. All bows must be taken home at the end of each school day. ”
Homework Estimate: Each student should practice at least 2 days outside of class to apply skills they are learning in class.
Teacher Bio:
“My son, Kaden, and I are the archery teachers at CCA. I have always been an avid hunter, but didn’t learn the techniques of shooting a bow for score until Kaden was about 6 years old. He attended a homeschool archery class at that time and has now gone on to obtain numerous National Championship titles. He is now competing at Semi-Pro level across the nation. Archery wasn’t as popular then as it is now, so I was forced to learn about the sport in order to coach Kaden at home. I have since obtained my coaches’ certification, started a youth archery team (TN Triple Threat), and opened a small bow shop in my garage. Outside of archery I have my own construction business.”

2:30 PM – 3:30 PM Start Your Own Business Now!
Grades 5-8Tuition: 30 weeks (1-hour class) – $230
Materials Fee: $10
Optional Lab:
Class Description:
Come learn how to start your own business. Don’t wait until you graduate! Do it now! In this class, students will start their own business and, in the process, learn about creating and understanding their vision and their mission for their businesses. They will learn about marketing, sales, advertising, customer relations, inventory, profits, services, employees, and managing their business. There’s no better way to learn than to dive in and start doing! These are all skills that they can grow up with and apply to their future businesses as adults if they choose entrepreneurship as their careers. Students will learn hands on and will have to learn to be creative to solve problems and overcome obstacles to start their own profitable businesses. We’ll learn to answer questions like: Why do businesses fail? Why do businesses succeed? Why would two similar business ideas have different outcomes / profit margins? Students will hear from local business people and young entrepreneurs (some of whom are CCA grads) who have successfully started their own businesses in the real world. This isn’t a class that the student can come and just listen or goof off in. All students will be accountable to the teachers and other students to dive in and get started. We will hit the ground running. Every student will be starting their first business before the end of the fall semester and show it off at the Christmas Makers Market in early December.
Required Textbooks and Materials:
Students will need access to a computer at home. A laptop would be helpful but is not required. Students will not all need to purchase the same materials, but they may need to make some investment in supplies, depending on their business.
Homework Estimate: Amount of homework will fluctuate throughout the year and will increase as their businesses get started. We will encourage the students to see it as a time investment in their business rather than homework. There will likely be times the success of their business is a reflection of the amount of time spent working and researching outside of class.
Teacher Bio:
“Mary Besse has always had an entrepreneurial spirit. She is the founder of CCA and directed it for 10 years. After handing over the directorship to Ms. Hilarie, she opened The Front Porch Cafe here in Lebanon. She still serves on the board of our tutorial. Before starting CCA, Ms. Mary also was a lead instructor at a local martial arts studio, she began and owned a photography business, and owned and operated a homemade meals to go business. Tim Lance has a desire for students to be prepared for a thriving adulthood. He and his wife Melissa began homeschooling 13 years ago. His family became part of the initial CCA class in 2014. Tim began serving as the Administrative Pastor of The Journey Church in 2018. Prior to his current role, he served over 30 years in operations/logistics with multiple retail establishments and non-profits. When Tim’s daughter was 11, he helped her establish a thriving baking business. Scott Marlow is a serial entrepreneur. He has created a series of marketing and software businesses online and is working on another one currently. On the rare occasion that Scott has a glimmer of a clue of what he’s doing, he builds a solo online business and usually experiences a modicum of success. When he doesn’t have a clue (which is most of the time) he puts his superpower to work, which is hiring really excellent people who are much smarter than him. Scott has found that this is the real secret to success in building a business. Scott has also recently begun a new real estate investing venture and enjoys encouraging young people to explore the possibilities of real estate investing for themselves. ”
