Each class will have an objective and activity to complete followed by a class discussion. There will be many group activities. Your student will not be bringing home any actual Legos, but I would be happy to share the projects so they can complete activities at home too!

Hello, I’m Emily! This will be my 9th year homeschooling, 8th year teaching at a co-op or tutorial, 6th year at CCA, and 5th year teaching STEAM class. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Commercial Art and Illustration. I am a mom of 3 and wife to my husband, Derek, of 19 years. Class Description:
This art class combines teaching about famous artists and the works associated with them with hands-on art projects to support this learning. We will work with various mediums, including watercolors, acrylics, oil pastels, markers, chalk, and clay. Your student’s works will include at least one canvas, and each work of art will be on quality art-grade material. We use artist-grade materials so that your child will see that tools are as important as talent! Each student will learn techniques to help them in their artistic endeavors. I will encourage discipline, creativity, and imagination, which are essential parts of learning and appreciating art.

I have been with CCA since the start and currently teach at three other schools in Wilson and Davidson counties. I hold a BA in Child Psychology with a minor in Education. I homeschooled my lovely daughter from grades 6-12th. I have been given the great blessing of teaching art to students for 30+ years. Everything from the wheel and axel and Roman aqueducts to drawbridges, catapults, and even airplanes. Through hands-on crafts, presentations, fun videos, and class discussions, students will uncover how these powerful machines worked and why they were so important in shaping the world we know today. In this class, students will focus on learning and practicing Spanish vocabulary with topics including conversational phrases, numbers, colors, animals, days of the week, months, food, seasons, emotions, family members, and more! Students will participate in activities and games each week to reinforce vocabulary learned. We will also learn about some of the amazing countries that speak Spanish!

I was one class shy of receiving a minor in Spanish in college, and I have been to Mexico two times. I also taught English online to students in China for a short time. Pom Dance is a high-energy, fast-paced class that blends jazz, hip-hop, and technical cheer skills. Focused on precision, sharpness, and synchronization, this class will utilize pom-poms to enhance visual effects in routines. Students learn routines, formations, jumps, turns, and kicks, for our end of year performance at the CCA talent show in April. *Performance is a required part of this girls only class.* Poms and bows for our performance will be purchased and are included with your material supply fee. This is a two-year course. There is so much information that we absolutely can’t cover all 50 states in one year. We will study 25 states this year and 25 next year. I also plan to incorporate a critical thinking riddle into our weekly class time.”

I have homeschooled since 2020 and my oldest started at CCA in 2021. This year I will have a 6th, 4th and 1st grader at CCA. I have taught various classes at church as well as tutored for our local Classical Conversations co-op and subbed at CCA for multiple teachers. I really enjoy teaching and work hard to engage each student so that they enjoy learning. I used Storytime Chess to teach my daughter how to play as a kindergartener and she still talks about how much fun she had learning that way. I’m excited to join CCA as a teacher this year!

In Elementary P.E., students will have a blast getting their energy out through a variety of activities!
