In our hands-on class, we will study human life from birth to elders, and everything in between. Yes, I will have the famous infant baby simulator for students to take home and care for as part of their “grade.” We will go over several subject areas of FCS throughout the course of the year, in a gender-neutral fashion. These areas will consist of but not limited to interpersonal relationships, interior design & home remodeling, child development & family studies, consumerism & home economic decisions, fashion design & clothing, food & nutrition, and more. Due to the nature of the class, students will have little to no written homework. The homework is typically hands-on. This is a hands-on class to teach young men and women about all aspects of real life and God’s purpose for us as individuals. This class will be fun, interactive, and hands-on learning. The supply fee is $45 due to the expense and maintenance of some items students will use in class, or take home. Teacher: Joann Marlow

8:00 AM – 9:00 AM General Science

Grades 7-8
Tuition: 30 weeks (1-hour class) – $230
Materials Fee: $45
Optional Lab:
Class Description:
Prepare to be awed by God’s amazing creation as we dive into a variety of science topics, including the scientific method, earth science, life science, and human anatomy. There are 16 modules in the textbook, with 2 weeks spent on average per module. At home, students will read each module, complete vocabulary worksheets, and answer selected On Your Own/Study Guide questions. In class, students will be guided to take some simple notes, and quizzes will be given on the key concepts of each module. Most experiments will be performed in class. We end the year with a few dissections. Science Fair participation is required for a grade in this class. Whether your students have had a robust elementary science education, or this is their first official science class, they will complete this fun course having a well-established knowledge of the basics in all areas of science and will be prepared to transition and engage in upcoming high school-level sciences. *This course will help your student transition from previous elementary expectations, to what will be expected from them in their high school years. This Apologia course probably requires more reading and more homework than what they had to do in the past. At-home quizzes are given over the simple notes given in class, encouraging students to learn how to study notes. More is required of them, but it’s still hard not to get an A in this course if homework is completed (perfection is not required). Please reach out if you feel your student might need modifications due to personal learning challenges.
Required Textbooks and Materials:
Apologia’s “Exploring Creation With General Science,” 2nd Edition by Jay Wile** (No need to purchase the Solutions/Test Manual or the Student Workbook). All lab & dissection supplies will be purchased by the teacher with the materials fee, except for simple materials students already have available at home. **A few copies of the textbook are available to borrow for the year. Contact me if interested!** Printer needed to print weekly homework assignments. Audio recordings of the modules will be made available via Google Classroom to aid students who have difficulty reading or who are auditory learners.
Homework Estimate: 1 hour/day
Teacher Bio:
“I’m excited to be given the opportunity to explore with students the details of God’s amazing creation & to expand their views of how great our Creator is! This will be my seventh year of formal teaching at CCA, my 11th year at CCA, and my 16th year as a homeschool mom of four amazing children. In my previous life, I worked as a registered nurse and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. Through the years, I’ve always had a heart for teaching. Understanding the why and the how behind concepts not only helps us retain & apply the information but also allows us to marvel at the tapestry of God’s detailed plan and worship Him at a deeper level. I currently teach High School Biology, High School Health, and Jr. High General Science at CCA. In my spare time, I serve on the Board of CCA out of a desire to be of assistance to the wonderful families who attend and those who run this fabulous organization. ”

Teacher: Bo Linam

8:00 AM – 9:00 AM Jr High American History

Grades 7-8
Tuition: 30 weeks (1-hour class) – $230
Materials Fee: $20
Optional Lab:
Class Description:
Our country was founded on Christian principles. To try and teach American History without teaching from a Biblical worldview is impossible. From our understanding of the Constitution, trial by jury, judicial penalties, and authoritative structures, our entire country and governmental system is based on the Word of God. Let’s teach our children true American History, from the viewpoint it was always intended to be taught. This is a lecture-style class that will also teach your children how to take notes and study from those notes for the tests.
Required Textbooks and Materials:
I will provide the text books, but your child is responsible to take care of them or they will be charged for a new book.
Homework Estimate: 1 hour per week
Teacher Bio:
I have a passion for American history and hate to see what is being taught to our children in today’s culture. Whether it be from critical theorists, atheists who wish to rewrite our founding father’s history, or the pushback against American exceptionalism, our children are taught to see everything about our history from a negative connotation, while we should be showing them how God has blessed our nation and they have a history of which they can be proud.

Teacher: Chris Katsuda

8:00 AM – 10:00 AM Robotics

Grades 7-8
Tuition: 30 weeks (*2-hour* class) – $460
Materials Fee: $100
Optional Lab:
Class Description:
“The purpose of this class is to teach students how to use the Engineering Design Process to solve problems. We will be using Vex IQ, a robotics system designed for elementary and middle school students. The students will identify problems; brainstorm possible solutions; design, build, and test their solutions; and document their work. This class uses fun competitive games to provide a framework for the robot designs. The students will work in teams of 3 against the other teams in the class. Games will have a driver controlled portion (where the students are controlling the robot themselves) as well as an autonomous portion (where the robots are being controlled only through code). The students will be exposed to concepts like friction, torque, gear ratios, and mechanical advantage. They will also be exposed to programming using blocks (students could also use python or they’re already familiar with it). There will also be a component of the class where they will have to present and explain their design solution. If your student has any interest in engineering, robotics is the best thing that I’ve found that gives kids an understanding of what engineering is like. The $100 material fee for the class is for robotics components, a competition field, and field elements that the students will use during class.”
Required Textbooks and Materials:
Laptop Computer, Engineering Notebook (details about this provided in class)
Homework Estimate: There is no required homework, but students who put in more work outside of class will tend to do better in class competitions than students who do less.
Teacher Bio:
My name is Chris Katsuda. I’ve been homeschooling our kids for the past 5 years. I currently coach my daughter’s competitive robotics team (14338A Ctrl-Alt-Defeat) where she is one of the top Vex VRC teams in Tennessee. I have worked as a software engineer for the past 29 years. This is my first year with CCA. Last year, we taught a 10 week robotics course for young engineers using Vex IQ, so I am excited to be able to provide a longer course where students can develop more complex and creative solutions.

Teacher: Marsha Orbke

8:00 AM – 9:00 AM What is Christian Apologetics?

Grades 7-12
Tuition: 30 weeks (1-hour class) – $230
Materials Fee: $30
Optional Lab:
Class Description:
“What is Christian Apologetics? Whether you are a new Christian, a seasoned Christian, or not a Christian, every student needs this class! TRUTH? “Can you handle the Truth?” or as Pontius Pilate famously asked, “What is Truth?” In a world where truth is quickly eroding into subjective feelings or whatever is hip in the culture at the moment, Christians must be ready to defend the faith as well as contend for it earnestly, like an athlete striving for victory with extreme intensity, as Jude states in the Scriptures. By learning the 12 points that prove Christianity is true (Dr. Norman Geisler), through the best-selling book, “I Don’t Have Enough Faith to Be an Atheist” (Geisler & Turek), students will see Christianity is not only more reasonable but also more rational than any other belief system in our world. So, let’s begin the journey! We need to be strong in our convictions & know how to critically think in a world that wants nothing of that, especially if you are a Christian! **This is a graded class and is a great elective class for HS students to earn credit. Though this class is for ANY student 7-12th. We alternate reading & workbook homework each week, but DON’T WORRY because we will WORK TOGETHER in class on weekly assignments/homework to ensure you understand. I am more concerned with effort and class participation, so as not to be overwhelmed with the material. We will also have class discussions, videos, and examples of real-life objections being answered. Whether you are a 7th grader or a 12th grader, you will gain something from this class.** Don’t hesitate to contact me with questions regarding the class. Let the Amazing journey begin!!”
Required Textbooks and Materials:
Each student will need to purchase the book (not the study guide), “I Don’t Have Enough Faith to Be an Atheist” by Norman L. Geisler & Frank Turek (can order from Amazon or Christianbook.com for $13-$17). (All other materials, including the Student Workbook, are provided with the materials fee.)
Homework Estimate: 1-2 hours per week or less
Teacher Bio:
My name is Marsha Orbke. I have been honored to be a part of CCA from the very beginning! I am married to my wonderful husband, Wade of almost 24 years now, and we have together four amazing children. My oldest son, Walker, is a junior at Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA. My other son, Isak, is 17, my oldest daughter, Hope is 14, and my youngest, Faith, is 8. I graduated from the University of TN, Knoxville, and I began my career as a Recreation Therapist in rehab centers and hospitals and did rehab for community re-entry patients with a private company. However, as my kiddos got older, I was divinely directed to not only stay at home with my kids but also homeschool them. After much prayer, we took the step of faith that God had put in both my husband’s and my heart to homeschool. After almost 12 years now of homeschooling, it has been a blessing. Anything good worth doing is usually not easy, and that goes without saying for homeschooling too, so I am grateful for my homeschool family at CCA, our Church, & others whom God has given us to help us in our journey! God has also enthusiastically put on my heart a love for Christian Apologetics, Logic Classes, & Student Ministry, and I am excited to share this with the next generation, so we can defend the faith with confidence & strength!

Teacher: Amanda Phillips

9:00 AM – 10:00 AM Drawing and Mixed Media

Grades 7-8
Tuition: 30 weeks (1-hour class) – $230
Materials Fee: $35
Optional Lab:
Class Description:
Instruction for the Drawing class is based on “Drawing from the Right Side of the Brain,” a technique that allows students to draw what they see instead of what they think they see. Our early drawing of a house might be a square with a triangle on top. While that drawing is a representation of a house, it is not what a house really looks like. This technique gives instruction on how to draw the intricate details that make a drawing look “real,” while also enabling the students to portray their projects with perspective and proportion. As the year progresses, they will learn shading techniques, which give depth and value to a drawing. Students will also be instructed on how to effectively use other mediums such as pen and ink and colored pencils. After a few basic drawings are completed, students will be allowed to choose from other materials supplied and will progress at their own speed. Students will be required to bring or email me a reference picture that they are interested in drawing each week.
Required Textbooks and Materials:
I will provide all materials
Homework Estimate: None
Teacher Bio:
Amanda has studied art for 10+ years through lessons, college courses, and studying abroad. She is married to her husband Eric of 9 years and a mom to her two year old daughter JoJo. She has taught art for over four years now and has found her passion in helping each person succeed in their individual artistic goals.

Teacher: Marsha Orbke

9:00AM – 10:00PM Intro to Logic/How to Think Critically

Grades 7-12
Tuition: 30 weeks (1-hour class) – $230
Materials Fee: $30
Optional Lab:
Class Description:
“Welcome to the FUN class of LOGIC! Simply stated, “Logic is the principle of correct reasoning.” In this class, your students will become better at making good arguments but also learning how to spot bad ones! We will become fallacy detectives, learning to spot errors in people’s logic. You may ask, why is logic important? Well, when we learn to use our minds to reason correctly, we tend to have true beliefs & therefore act on true beliefs, & acting on true beliefs can have far better outcomes than acting on false beliefs. For example, a person who doesn’t believe in gravity and wants to jump off a tall mountain with no negative consequences might see that experiment go south really quickly (no pun intended, Lol)! So, it is always to our advantage to reason correctly. From a Biblical Worldview, we will explore why thinking logically is consistent with how God intends us to think. So, put on your detective hats & let’s learn to detect good arguments vs bad ones & put yourself ahead of the rest! This class is a basic Introduction to Logic. It is a great class for any student in 7-12 grade! We will learn in class, as well as do fun exercises together. In order to learn logic, you must put logic to work, so there IS “”some”” homework involved, but most work will be done as a group. This is a graded class, but most grades will come from in-class participation. Though, some of the grades will come from homework and a few quizzes. Don’t worry-as long as you participate, you will have no trouble making a good grade in this class! So, let’s learn to reason logically together!”
Required Textbooks and Materials:
Each Student must purchase Master Books’ “Introduction to Logic” (Student Edition-Textbook) by Jason Lisle. It can be purchased on the Master Books website: https://www.masterbooks.com/introduction-to-logic for about $27. You can also find this textbook at Christianbook.com for about the same price. A simple binder or folder will be helpful too in organizing papers from class. (Materials Fee will include workbook, copies, & other class supplies)
Homework Estimate: Only about 30 mins per week

Materials Fee: $25
Optional Lab:
Class Description:
Welcome to Archery Class. We will start from the beginning using the USA Archery National Training System. The goal of this class is not just to get kids to shoot a bow but to understand that Archery is about technique, form, and having fun. We will apply the steps of the NTS and learn about the equipment we shoot, the different styles of Archery, the scoring and targets of each, and mostly how to have fun in a sport we grow to love. They will do some target building, learn about bow mechanics, and ultimately leave this class knowing what Archery is truly about. Discipline, structure, and focus on Archery typically make a child a great life steward. To me, the real blessing is just that. Thank you for your interest in CCA archery class!
Required Textbooks and Materials:
Please contact Branden McGrath *before buying* to ensure you are purchasing what is needed. In general, a Recurve or Genesis Compound Bow and arrows are needed for this class. The type can depend on your child’s size and what the bow will possibly be used for in the future. Additionally, an archery tab is needed to aid in shooting the bow (preferred is Bateman TC3 Three Finger Under Tab https://lancasterarchery.com/products/bateman-tc3-three-finger-under-tab ). http://www.lancasterarchery.com is a good source for finding the equipment needed. A soft or hard-shelled case for transporting and containing equipment at CCA is essential. Optional equipment needed: resistance exercise bands for physical therapy (Amazon/Walmart). **You may rent a bow from CCA for $75 for the year. Your child will not be able to take this bow home for practice. (An additional materials fee check will need to be written to CCA for $75 dated 5/1/25 at the time of registration if you are renting.)

I have been married to my wife, Katreece, for 22 years as of June 28th. We have three children: Kaden (2025 CCA Graduate), Jalyn 11th grade, and Emmie 9th grade. We own our own construction business, McGrath Construction. I have always loved bow hunting, but didn’t get into archery competitions until my son, Kaden, was about 7 years old. Back then, archery clubs weren’t as common as they are now, so I had to learn everything on my own. Due to the scarce population of archery clubs in Middle TN, I decided to start my own club, TN Triple Threat, in 2019. I obtained my Coach’s certification and began offering private lessons to archers around the area. As a family, we travel around the country for various competitions. Our team, TN Triple Threat, has won numerous state titles and National titles. Bobby Smith was a good friend of mine, and I had known him for a long time. It is with a heavy heart that I try to fill some big shoes. I promised him I would take care of his students, and I intend to do just that. I’m looking forward to sharing this sport with your child alongside my son, Kaden.

1:30 PM – 2:30 PM Jr. High Spanish

Grades 7-8
Tuition: 30 weeks (1-hour class) – $230
Materials Fee: $60
Optional Lab:
Class Description:
“For this class, we will use Spanish for You! curriculum. We will use the theme “Viajes”, which means “Trips”. Students develop listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills useful in everyday life within the context of five units: Transportation, Mexico City, The Hotel, The Restaurant and The Beach. Spanish for You! teaches the key foundational concepts of pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar, syntax, and verb conjugation. This curriculum is challenging for students, but they learn so much and will be more than ready for high school Spanish classes. This class uses the same curriculum company as previous years that I have taught for 5th-8th grade classes. However, this is an entirely different package and focus, with different vocabulary; therefore, it will build on concepts from previous years, which makes it perfect for previous students, but will also be a great class for beginning Spanish students. We will also have several fun days such as unique country holiday celebrations with typical foods and country cultural presentations to learn about Hispanic language, culture and geography. This year I will purchase classroom access rights to the curriculum. I will provide a 3-ring binder set-up with all of the printed curriculum, homework checklists, tabbed dividers and student workbooks, therefore my supply fee reflects these costs. The class is very interactive and we play lots of games. All students will be participating verbally in class. That is the only way to learn to speak a language! This is a fast-paced, more advanced class. Some 8th grade students take this class as a high school Spanish 1 credit.”
Required Textbooks and Materials:
“Curriculum needed: None Supplies needed: a notebook pouch (to hold flash cards), index cards or card stock paper for flash cards, pencils, colored pencils or markers, Internet access for audio files on Google Classroom.”
Homework Estimate: 4 days of 30-45 minutes per day, each week. Weekly study time outside of class is imperative to keeping up with the pace of this class.

We studied the Spanish language before moving to Paraguay, but truly became fluent by being immersed in the language and culture. Our jobs have taken us to Mexico, Honduras, Colombia, Peru, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Paraguay and Cuba. We have a passion for working among Hispanic people, culture, and language.

Class Description:
Come learn how to start your own business. Don’t wait until you graduate! Do it now! In this class, students will start their own business and, in the process, learn about creating and understanding their vision and their mission for their businesses. They will learn about marketing, sales, advertising, customer relations, inventory, profits, services, employees, and managing their business. There’s no better way to learn than to dive in and start doing! These are all skills that they can grow up with and apply to their future businesses as adults if they choose entrepreneurship as their careers. Students will learn hands on and will have to learn to be creative to solve problems and overcome obstacles to start their own profitable businesses. We’ll learn to answer questions like: Why do businesses fail? Why do businesses succeed? Why would two similar business ideas have different outcomes / profit margins? Students will hear from local business people and young entrepreneurs (some of whom are CCA grads) who have successfully started their own businesses in the real world. This isn’t a class that the student can come and just listen or goof off in. All students will be accountable to the teachers and other students to dive in and get started.
Required Textbooks and Materials:
Students will need access to a computer at home. A laptop would be helpful but is not required. Students will not all need to purchase the same materials, but they may need to make some investment in supplies, depending on their business.
Homework Estimate: Amount of homework will fluctuate throughout the year and will increase as their businesses get started. We will encourage the students to see it as a time investment in their business rather than homework. There will likely be times the success of their business is a reflection of the amount of time spent working and researching outside of class.
Teacher Bio:
Mary Besse has always had an entrepreneurial spirit. She is the founder of CCA and directed it for 10 years. After handing over the directorship to Ms. Hilarie, she opened The Front Porch Cafe here in Lebanon. She still serves on the board of our tutorial. Before starting CCA, Ms. Mary also was a lead instructor at a local martial arts studio, she began and owned a photography business, and owned and operated a homemade meals to go business. Tim Lance has a desire for students to be prepared for a thriving adulthood. He and his wife Melissa began homeschooling 12 years ago. His family became part of the initial CCA class in 2014. Tim began serving as the Administrative Pastor of The Journey Church in 2018. Prior to his current role, he served over 30 years in operations/logistics with multiple retail establishments and non-profits. When Tim’s daughter was 11, he helped her establish a thriving baking business. Scott Marlow is a serial entrepreneur. He has created a series of marketing and software businesses online and is working on another one currently. On the rare occasion that Scott has a glimmer of a clue of what he’s doing, he builds a solo online business and usually experiences a modicum of success. When he doesn’t have a clue (which is most of the time) he puts his superpower to work, which is hiring really excellent people who are much smarter than him. Scott has found that this is the real secret to success in building a business. Scott has also recently begun a new real estate investing venture and enjoys encouraging young people to explore the possibilities of real estate investing for themselves.
